OPEN LETTER TO U.S. SENATOR HARRY REID

November 18, 2008

RE: FOCA

U.S. Senator Harry Reid
Senate Majority Leader
528 Hart Senate Office Building
Washington, DC 20510

Dear Senator Reid:

While Senator Barack Obama may have won the presidential election, please know that he did so because he was able to fool some of the American people into thinking that he is interested in reducing the number of abortions. As for you, if you attempt to pass the Freedom of Choice Act (FOCA), my guess is you will see the true number of Americans who disagree with both President-Elect Obama and the members of Congress who support this bill.

I am going to take the liberty of characterizing the official "pro-choice" position, and I challenge anyone who espouses that view to tell me where I'm wrong. An FOCA backed, "pro-choice" stand is that abortions must be legal for all nine months of pregnancy, that a minor girl of any age may obtain one without parental knowledge or consent, that abortionists should be allowed to withhold information about the risks or about fetal development, and that the father of the child has no say whatsoever. Proponents of abortion also want all of this paid for with tax dollars from non-consenting citizens.

Is that about it? As this is, indeed, a proper characterization, then the term “pro-choice” is a complete misnomer. The stance can only be considered Pro-Abortion.

Abortionists are not doctors. Doctors treat disease, illness, or injury. Pregnancy is none of these. Further, it takes a lot of nerve to tell people that something is none of their business, then demand that they pay for it.

Protecting the unborn IS the civil rights issue of today! NO to FOCA!
